Bay of Plenty Symphonia’s concert entitled BRAVE NEW WORLD will feature one of New Zealand’s most acclaimed up-and-coming young pianists, Korean born, Jason Bae. 

Tackling the Grieg piano concerto at the age of 21 might be considered an act of bravery, but not so for New Zealand’s wunderkind, Jason, who played this concerto many years ago when his legs hardly reached the pedals.  Since then, Jason has been collecting prizes like candy, performing all over the world, including Carnegie Hall.  His CV of accomplishments, performances and prizes almost fills three A4 pages. 

To a musician, the term “New World” immediately resonates as the title of Antonin Dvorak’s last symphony nr 9. 

 Bay of Plenty Symphonia plays this evergreen of the classical music repertoire for your enjoyment.  The E-minor symphony is said to combine Bohemian folk tunes from Dvorak’s native country with afro and native American influences he picked up as he was touring the United States.  The result is as delightful as it is tuneful, full of epic grandeur and the spirit of optimism and opportunity associated with the American pioneers of the 19^th century.
