Best toilets: The quirky Hundertwasser designer-toilets in Kawakawa (designed by famous artist Freidrich Hundertwasser who recycled the community's old glass bottles and reclaimed bricks to create the only thing he has built in the southern hemisphere.

Best luxury lodge: Kauri Cliffs, Matauri Bay Northland. Try their day spa in the bush.

Best backpacker spot: Napier's ex-prison lodge is the best nights in the slammer anywhere in the world. As New Zealand's oldest prison, the Napier jail used to house convicts including mass murderers, drug barons, gang members and the criminally insane.

Best in the air: Hot air ballooning from Carterton's Ballooning New Zealand base.

Best walking track: Rakiura, Stewart Island. Hear and see muttonbirds, mollymawks, cape pigeons, bellbirds, tuis, fantails and wood pigeons, grey warblers, kaka and fantail.

 가장 좋은 걷기 산책로는 스튜어트섬의 라키우라 트렉. 온갖 종류의 새를 구경하고 소리를 들을 수 있다.

Best hot pools: Hanmer Springs north of Christchurch or the brilliant new next to the Eco-Resort at Franz Josef. 최고의 온천은 남섬 크라이스처치 북쪽의 한머스프링, 또는 프란츠조셉에 있는 친환경 리조트 내의 빙하 온천.  

Best farmers market: Matakana Village - organic fruit and produce, pickles and chutneys, fruit cheeses, free range eggs, freshly baked breads, pastries, other foody delights and close to some wineries!

Best five-star eco resort retreat: Scenic Group's Te Waonui, Franz Josef. They need to move the helicopter base a little out of the centre of town: choppers and pristine rainforest peace don't fit.

별 다섯개짜리 친환경 리조트 중 최고는 프란츠 조셉에 있는 시닉 그룹의 테 와오누이. 다만 평화로운 숲속의  소음을 내는 헬리콥터 베이스는 좀 외곽으로 옮겨야 될 듯.   

Best flea market: Otara. New Zealand's largest street market with up to 5000 people every Saturday morning. Pacific Island, Maori, Indian, Chinese and Pakeha stallholders gather each week, creating a fantastic Kiwi experience. Try the rewana bread. Mmmm.

최고의 벼룩시장은 오타라, 매주 토요일 오전에 5천명이 방문한다. 특히 태평양, 마오리, 인디안, 중국과 유럽의 후손들이 모여 환상적인 뉴질랜드 체험을 제공, 리와나빵도 꼭 맛보길 추천.

Best surfing: Whangamata in the Coromandel. The legendary Whanga bar produces long peeling breaks but of their day try the Meatworks, Kaikoura; and Ahipara's Shipwreck near Kaitaia.

Best ocean adventure: Watching whales off Kaikoura: whale heaven, with a 95% success rate of seeing a sperm whale, humpback, blue whale or tiny Hector's dolphin.

Best hill tramp: The 18km walk through dense valley bush up into alpine meadows to the 5000m snow-capped peaks of Kaikoura: Stay at the Shearwater Lodge.

Best concerts: Rhythm & Vines Concert with over 30 bands in 24 hours for the younger ones in Gisborne; or the Mission Estate concert for more sedates types in - Hawke's Bay.

Best national park walk: Nelson's Abel Tasman is a paradise of golden sands, lush bush, and sheltered lagoons and coves, for walking, kayaking or both.

최고의 국립 공원 트렉은 넬슨의 아벡 타즈만 트랙. 금빛 모래와 울창한 관목숲, 동굴 등이 있어 걷기. 카약킹 모두 환상적이다.

Best environmental shop: Eco store in Ponsonby.
