마운트 해변에서 휴가 즐기는 바다표범

어린 바다표범(Leopard Seal)이 마운트 비치에 주말동안 모투리키섬(Leisure Island)에서 휴가를 즐겼다.

 

바다 표범은 일요일부터 털갈이를 하기위해 섬의 해안가로 올라왔다.

 

바다표범을 보려는 사람들이 너무 가깝게 접근하는 것을 막기위해 바닷가에 푯말을 세우고 환경부 소속 자원봉사자들이 사람들의 궁금함에 답하기위해 현장에 나와있었다.

 

지난 1월에도 마리나 브릿지에 바다표범이 출현해 햇살을 즐기는 모습을 사진찍기위해 많은 시민들이 몰려들었다.

 

바다표범은 남극 주변에서 발견할 수 있는 데 뉴질랜드 주변에서 가끔씩 발견되는 바다표범은 아주 특별한 경우라고 해양학자 Laura Boren이 전했다.

 

해양동물이 많이 살고있는 카이코우라(Kaikoura)에서도 일년에 한번 아니면 이년에 한번정도만 바다 표범을 볼 수 있을만큼 사람들 앞에 자주 출현하는 동물은 아니다.

바다 표범이 바닷가로 나오는 것이 정해진 계절이 있다기 보다 나이와 관련이 있으며 털갈이를 위해 먼 바다로 나가 큰 소리로 운다.

 

머리가 크고 사나운 턱을 가지고 있어서 사나운 바다 포식자 중의 하나로 사람들이 생각하는 귀여운 이미지와는 거리가 있다.
